Lulu se complace de presentar la exhibición individual del pintor irlandés, radicado en Nueva York, Padraig Timoney (n. 1968).
Un blanco en movimiento quien es conocido por trabajar primordialmente con la pintura, pero también con la fotografía, la escultura y el dibujo, Timoney nunca desarrolla un estilo singular y consistentemente identificable. En su práctica proteica e idiosincrática, las obras son susceptibles a asumir muchas figuras y formas, desde la abstracción al diseño a la pintura figurativa, en cualquier numero de modos. Uno siempre es susceptible, al entrar una exhibición de Padraig Timoney, a sentirse como si uno se encontrara en una exhibición grupal que presenta el trabajo de varios aristas diferentes. Pero después de una visualización cuidadosa y un mínimo de reflexión, conexiones, temas y conceptos comienzan a emerger mágicamente. Como tal, Timoney puede parecer, al menos inicialmente, fomentar una aproximación forense al arte, pero tal aproximación erróneamente implicaría que sus exhibiciones pueden ser resueltas, como un crimen o un acertijo. El método del artista rigurosamente intuitivo y orgánico de hacer exhibiciones inevitablemente imposibilita tales superficiales y fáciles resultados. Operando algo así como un cartógrafo de la experiencia humana, la complejidad con la cual él proyecta su vida es demasiado rica para soluciones simples, aún si un cierto nivel de simpleza nunca está lejos de lo que él hace.
Para su show en Lulu, Timoney presentará una selección de obras que se encuentran en una vaga unidad en problemáticas del espacio, movimiento y dirección. Una imagen momentáneamente vista por el artista en un tren a gran velocidad en Francia es relocalizada muchos años después gracias a Street View, cuya mediación de múltiples capas lo vuelven inseparable del objeto mismo. Un segmento del derrumbe del lecho del Rio Grande, coleccionado por el artista mismo en un viaje a Nuevo México, es escaneado e impreso como un objeto 3-D, mientras una foto muestra un sonriente taxista de la Ciudad de México (tomada en el último viaje de Timoney a la Ciudad de México) alegremente conduciendo en la dirección equivocada por una calle, en reversa. Aquí la experiencia personal, vivida y aparentemente azarosa, se convierte no tanto en biográfica o sentimental, sino una fuente de la maravilla existencial en sí y sobre sí misma, la cual el artista busca transmitir al mundo por medio de su singular y heterogénea práctica.

Lulu is pleased to present a solo exhibition of the Irish, New York-based painter, Padraig Timoney (b. 1968).
A moving target who is known to work primarily with painting, but also with photography, sculpture and drawing, Timoney never develops a single, consistent identifiable style. In his protean and idiosyncratic practice, works are liable to assume many shapes and forms, from abstraction to design to figurative painting, in any number of modes. One is always liable, upon entering a Padraig Timoney exhibition, to feel as if one were encountering a group show featuring work by several different artists. But after a careful viewing and a minimum of reflection, connections, themes and concepts begin to magically emerge. As such, Timoney might seem, at least initially, to encourage a forensic approach to art, but such an approach mistakenly implies that his exhibitions can be solved, like a crime or a riddle. The artist’s rigorously intuitive and organic method of exhibition making inevitably precludes such pat and easy outcomes. Operating something like a cartographer of human experience, the complexity with which he maps out life is too rich for simple solutions, even if a certain level of simplicity is never to far from what he does.
For his show at Lulu, Timoney will show a selection of works which are found to have a loose unity in issues of place, movement, and direction. An image momentarily seen by the artist from a fast-moving train in France is relocated many years later thanks to Street View, whose multilayered mediation becomes inseparable from the thing itself. A crumbling segment of the river bed of the Rio Grande, collected by the artist himself on a trip to New Mexico, is scanned and printed as a 3-D object, while a photo depicts a grinning, Mexico City taxi driver (taken on Timoney’s last trip to Mexico City) gleefully driving the wrong way down the street, backwards. Here personal, lived and seemingly random experience becomes not so much biographical or sentimental, but rather a source of existential marvel in and of itself, which the artist seeks to transmit to the world through his singularly heterogeneous practice.
